Axcil Completes First 24 Hour Race in 4th
Posted on: May 08, 2017
Axcil was in an Emotional and ecstatic state after completing his first 24 hrs race in Paul Ricard in France on the 6th to 7th May.
After receiving a call up from UAE based team GPXTREME to drive one of their Renault GT3 RS01, Axcil set about to reward the team with his best possible performance. He spent the prior 2 weeks working twice as hard in the gym and on the Simulator to be 100% prepared.
Indeed the hard work paid off as he hit the ground running in first practice consistently being on of the fastest drivers on track. GPXTREME were pleased and rewarded Axcil as the driver to qualify for the #28 Renault RS01. Axcil did not disappoint and qualified 4th overall to set up a good challenge against the seasoned Pro Class drivers as 5 minutes prior to qualifying the #28 car was moved up from Pro AM to the Pro Class.
The race got off to the worst possible way in wet and windy conditions with the #28 Renault RS01 stopping on track on lap One with electrical issues. The engineers and Mechanics did a great job to resolve the issue and get Axcil and team back out on track...all be it 3 laps down.
Anthony Beltoise did the first stint handing the car over to Axcil in 24th position on a drying track. By the end of Axcils 2 hour stint he had done an amazing job moving the team up to 7th overall; consistently running a top 3 race pace. Pierre Brice Mena was next in car and drove another fantastic stint for the team before handing over to Jean Pierre Valentini. Taking over for his second stint Axcil once again pushed hard to move the #28 up to 4th place where all the drivers and team did a fantastic job to maintain and hold the position to the end against a hard fought battle from behind from the #1 Mercedes AMG GT3.
"What an amazing and emotional experience it has been competing in my first 24hrs Race. 4th Overall is incredible considering the electronic issues we had on lap One...Credit goes to the Amazing team of Engineers and Mechanics in GPXTREME and my team mates; Anthony Beltoise, Pierre Brice Mena, Jean Pierre Valentini and Bassam Kronfli who all drove a fantastic race without putting a foot wrong all weekend."
"A big thank you goes to GPXTREME for the opportunity and faith they showed in me and what an Amazing After Party...GPXTREME ROCKS!!"
