Jefferies Signs for European Laborghini Super Trofeo Championship

After clinching the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East Championship last week, Zimbabwe racing sensation Axcil Jefferies is angling for more success on the racing track as he signed up for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo European Championship beginning next month.

Jefferies (22), alongside Dutch partner Rik Breukers (18) guided the GDL Racing Middle East team to success in the first edition of the Middle East championship, finishing top of the standings at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

The Zimbabwean broke the news on his Twitter account yesterday morning.

“NEWSFLASH — Contract signed! We will be racing in The Lamborghini Super Trofeo European Championship,” read Jefferies’ tweet.

Earlier in the week, he had hinted that something was cooking via another tweet in which he flaunted trophies from his recent triumph.

“The taste of success has bitten again, I need more! News to follow soon,” he said on Twitter last Wednesday.

Jefferies has been a senior racing instructor at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi for the past couple of years, after he failed to secure sponsorship to pursue his childhood dream, of competing in Formula One.

When the Yas Marina Circuit hosted 2016 Formula One season finale on the November 27 weekend, he had the privilege to interact with some of the world’s top drivers; a factor which might have re-ignited his dream.

“More than anything, to sit from the outside and watch GP3, GP2 and Formula One last weekend was extremely difficult for me,” Jefferies exclusively revealed to Standardsport in December last year.

“With that being said, this weekend motivated me so much, that I will make sure I am in a car next year. I will be back and I will continue to pursue the dream of having an African in Formula One, one day,” he also said.

In the past Jefferies has competed in Formula BMW Pacific Championship, the FIA Formula Two Championship, the Indy Lights Championship in the US and the GP2 Series in 2014.

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe will see Jefferies compete in some of the top racing circuits in Europe from April to September in a six-round series.

Italian circuit, Monza will host the first round from April 21-23, before action moves to British Grand Prix’s Silverstone Circuit, England in May, then Paul Richard Circuit in France the following month. Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium will stage the penultimate round in July, with the Grand Finale set for Nürburgring, Germany in September. Lastly all the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championships from across the world will meet for the World Final in Imola, Italy.
