Imola, Italy November 20, 2017.
Axcil Jefferies and team mate Rik Breukers continued their good form in Imola Italy, that started early in the year where they dominated the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East Championship.
Going into the final 2 European rounds this past weekend, it was all to fight for between four teams with GDL RACING duo of Jefferies and Breukers lying 3rd only 2 points behind Imperiale Motorsport pair of Vito Postiglione and Jonathan Ceccotto, and 7 points behind championship leaders Antonelli Motorsport drivers Mikail Grenier and Loris Spinelli. Japanese driver Nemoto and his Brazilian team mate Abatta were also in the running 2 point's adrift of Jefferies.
Throughout the cold and wet practice sessions on Wednesday, Axcil Jefferies dominated proceedings finishing over a second faster than his peers and putting him in a good frame of mind for the grand finals.
Qualifying kicked off on Thursday in dry and sunny conditions with drivers all setting very fast and close times, with only 0.4 seconds between the top 10 cars. The GDL drivers started race 1 from Row 4 and Race 2 on the front row.
Strong aggressive racing saw Axcil Jefferies and Rik finish the final 2 European races in 4th and 2nd which placed them in a very respectable 2nd Overall in The European Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship at their first attempt. The European season saw Axcil and Rik finishing with a total 9 podiums including 2 wins.
"After Rik and myself dominated the Middle East Championship, it was only natural that the next step would be to take on the Big Guns of Europe's best drivers and I am very proud we were able to compete at the highest level and win races and come so close to clinching the overall Title. To finish 2nd Overall against drivers that have been in this championship for several years is very satisfying!!"
Saturday and Sunday was the highlight of the year for all drivers from across the world for The 2017 World Finals. A total of 67 cars and over 100 drivers from Europe, The American, The Asian and Middle East Championships.
Not surprisingly Axcil and Rik again showed their mettle to finish the Final race in second place after one of the hardest fought battles between the top ten cars in recent motorsport history with positions changing every lap until the final chequered flag!!
"It would have been the perfect finish to one of my best racing years had we won the World Finals but we are still very happy with 2nd place. We can head home with our heads held high as Middle East Champions, European Vice Champions and World Vice Champions!! Credit to our team GDL,who worked so hard all year to provide us with a competitive car. Big Thanks to Gianluca and all his team." said Jefferies.
As the year closes in Axcil Jefferies plans on competing in the Gulf 12hrs held at his work base of Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi where he works as a Senior Race Instructor.
His management team are still in negotiations for Axcil to race in a GT3 car and also hinted on a big surprise announcement coming up. Stay Tuned.
This weekend Yas Marina Circuit will host the Final round of The F1 Championship where Axcil will once again interact with F1 drivers and keep all his supporters and fans up to date with proceedings on all his social media platforms.
