The weekend started off well as the former South African kart champion qualified the Pioneer Africa Corporation backed car second fastest for first race, missing pole by only 0.04. For race two he would line up third. He went on to win first race, but it wasn't easy. Having taken the lead at the start he soaked up tremendous pressure from Ireland's Gary Thompson and the lead even changed briefly before 'The Axe' took it back. He was then able to pull away to record his first ever car racing win. Even more impressive is the fact that it was only his third ever car race!

BMW has announced the recipients of its much sought after Formula BMW scholarship, and for Zimbabwean Axcil Jefferies, it was a dream come true. Earlier this year Jefferies signed to contest the 2009 Formula BMW Pacific championship with Eurasia Motorsport. With two successive South African national championship kart titles already behind his name, he channelled his attention on single seaters and after successfully completing the Formula BMW licensing school programme in Bahrain a year ago, he was able to attend a number of official test sessions in Malaysia. Despite being the youngest driver to test Formula BMW he showed impressive pace and engineers spoke very highly of the feedback he was able to give. I would liked to have done more tests because, apart from learning a lot, they made me realise I had to move up from karts, said the thoughtful Jefferies who has been racing since the age of six.
