MSA Academy.

Axcil Jefferies has been identified by the UK Governing Body of Motorsport, The Motor Sports Association (MSA) as being a potentially elite competitor and therefore has been selected for the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE). AASE develops the broad range of competences required in elite sport. It had been designed to present opportunities for young sports people who have demonstrated the potential to go on to Elite Level, to develop a mix of transferable skills and qualifications that will aid there development as a competitor and/or allow them to progress to further/higher education and/or employment.

AASE has been running since 2004 and is now active across a number of sports including football, rugby, tennis, golf, athletics and swimming with notable success for example, Rebecca Adlington was an AASE student when she took double Gold in Beijing. The AASE framework has been designed to meet the diverse needs of potentially elite athlete's who have the realistic potential to achieve excellence in their sport and are seeking to perform at the highest level as their main career goal, whilst continuing with related academic studies. This offers them alternative career pathways and future options once their competitive career is over. The AASE model is designed to test athletes ability to apply themselves to professional development in the technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects of their chosen sport. AASE is in two parts: half vocational (NVQ) and half technical certificate (BTEC) or alongside the technical certificate students can continue with their regular A levels.

On the back of a very successfull 2009 where Axcil finished 3rd in the Formula BMW Series, he will be testing and preparing for 2012 when he steps up to the prestigious Indy Lights Series and the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Recent News

Last week Axcil took part in a fitness test at the Porsche Human Performance Centre based at Silverstone. The Porsche Performance Centre recognises that the most important component of any vehicle is the driver. The facility includes a sports science laboratory, equipped with state-of-the-art technology from Technogym and Optical Express. They offer a full range of physiological testing to provide you with a greater understanding of your health and driving-specific fitness levels. Advice, exercise and nutritional plans are then prescribed to provide structure and motivation to achieve your goals. A heat chamber is available for specialist acclimation training for racing drivers and endurance athletes prior to racing in hot climates.

Axcil has been working extremely hard on his fitness, so it was expected that Axcil would produce satisfactory results. He proved to be one of the fitness athletes in the academy. All the academy drivers were issued with programmes to help them gain a competitive advantage.

Axcil is very grateful to the MSA for making the fitness test possible. In January 2011 another fitness evaluation will take place.

Calendar.

Once again 2012 will see Formula two compete pre-dominantly on either current or former Formula One tracks, including a first visit for the new era of F2 to the Hungaroring near Budapest and Paul Ricard in France. The series will also visit Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix, Algarve in Portugal, Germany's Nurburgring and the legendary Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, together with Brands Hatch and a season finale at Monza in Italy.

There will be two races at each of the eight events, giving a total of 16 races for the championship.

Charity.

In February 1997, Soroptimist International of Zimbabwe (Harare) W/O 54/67, an International Women's Service organisation with members in 115 countries decided after consultation and moral support from the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, to establish Childline - Zimbabwe, to be run along similar lines to those agencies already operating in the UK, South Africa and elsewhere, but adapted to make it relevant and appropriate to Zimbabwe in the 21st Century.

The subject of child abuse has for many years had a very low profile in Zimbabwe, but recent times have seen much publicity being given to the issue, especially where rape of minors is concerned.

There has been a considerable change in the public's acceptance that child abuse does occur, and concern that children's rights are not realised and their voice not heard.

Nationally and locally the present situation in Zimbabwe is one of profound economic and social difficulty. Since mid 1998, the local currency has devalued against the US dollar by over 100%, inflation has passed the 70% figure and there is massive unemployment. These factors have exacerbated the poor social conditions in which the majority of the population find themselves. We believe that in this climate there is an increasing need for Childline's services.

Beneficiaries

Childline through its unique approach of freepost, freephone and drop-in facility (Harare only at present) aims to reach all children in Zimbabwe. Childline is gender sensitive and does not discriminate on any grounds.

Although a child in Zimbabwean law is legally under 18, Childline will respond to any young person who needs assistance. The provision of the freepost service means that any child from the remotest areas, whether or not they can access a telephone, can reach Childline at no cost. This is particularly important in Zimbabwe. Since the launch of the freepost service over 3500 letters have been received and since the launch of the freephone service (1st March 1999) there have been approximately 30000 attempted calls to Childline. Callers and letter writers benefit because they have someone they can express themselves to in confidence, who they can trust, and who can, in appropriate cases refer them to other sources of help and information.
